Two lawyers in Malaysia have been detained by anti corruption investigators over allegations linked to an RM8 million trust fund fraud involving a property development project.
According to reports, the two men, both believed to be in their 30s, were arrested by the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission, widely known as MACC, after they appeared at the agency’s headquarters in Putrajaya to give statements on April 21.
A magistrate court in Putrajaya later approved a four day remand order for the suspects. The remand reportedly runs until April 25 while investigators continue gathering evidence in the case.
Investigators believe the lawyers worked together to submit documents containing false information between 2023 and 2025. Authorities suspect the documents were used to gain access to trust funds worth around RM8 million tied to a property development project.
Malaysian media reports said the alleged fraud involved withdrawals from trustee funds that were supposed to be protected for project related purposes. Officials have not yet publicly disclosed the names of the suspects or the law firms connected to the investigation.
The case has drawn attention inside Malaysia’s legal community because lawyers are often trusted to manage client and project funds. Misuse of trust accounts is considered a serious professional and criminal offence in many countries.
The MACC has not announced formal charges yet, but the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are expected to review financial records and supporting documents linked to the transactions.
